South Korea's Police Mutual Aid Association (PMAA) is looking for its C-level executives, with its chairman, chief investment officer (CIO) and business development officer posts left vacant for more than six months.

PMAA plans to appoint its chairman, CIO and business development officer soon, industry sources said on Wednesday. The association conducted interviews for candidates for CIO and business development officer in September 2020. However, the candidates failed to get approval from the board of representatives, leaving the posts vacant for longer than expected.

At the meeting of PMAA's board of representatives in March, a proposal for an appointment of Won Kyung-wan, former Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Commissioner, as a new chairman failed to attract majority support. As a result, PMAA had to go through the selection process from the beginning.

Although the detailed timeline has not been fixed, an official at the PMAA said it will start looking for candidates in the near future.

PMAA is also seeking candidates for its vacant CIO post. It will conduct document screening, followed by interviews held by the nomination committee.

PMAA had been looking for a new CIO to replace Lee Do-yoon since July 2020. It shortlisted two candidates out of 25 applicants through the selection process, but the proposal for their appointment was rejected by the board of representatives earlier this year.

Some market observers said that it would be difficult to attract enough candidates as a successful candidate is not allowed to be re-employed for three years after the term expires and applicants are required to have more than 15 years of experience.

“The competition was strong during the previous recruitment process, but it will be an issue whether candidates that meet all the criteria will apply again,” said an industry source. (Reporting by Seon-young Kim)
